Conventional Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

At TCR Advanced Engineering, we deliver a complete range of Conventional Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) services, accredited by NABL (ISO/IEC 17025) and recognized globally. These methods form the foundation of asset integrity evaluation, helping industries ensure the reliability, safety, and compliance of materials, welds, and components without causing damage.

Our highly trained Level II & Level III inspectors, supported by portable and in-house facilities, provide accurate, fast, and standards-compliant inspections across industries such as oil & gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers, power, aerospace, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

Why Conventional NDT?

Conventional NDT remains the backbone of inspection services, offering proven and widely accepted techniques to:

  • Detect surface and sub-surface flaws (cracks, porosity, inclusions).

  • Verify weld and fabrication quality.

  • Measure material thickness and uniformity.

  • Ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, ISO, EN, and API codes.

  • Provide quality assurance during manufacturing and in-service inspections.

Our Conventional NDT Capabilities

1. Positive Material Identification (PMI)

  • On-site verification of metals and alloys using XRF and OES analyzers.

  • Prevents material mix-ups that may lead to catastrophic failures.

  • Ensures compliance with material specifications and traceability.

2. Surface Roughness Measurement

  • Portable profilometers used to measure Ra, Rz, and surface finish parameters.

  • Critical for machined, welded, and coated surfaces where finishing affects performance.

3. Ferrite Content Measurement

  • Determines ferrite percentage in stainless steel welds and base materials.

  • Ensures crack resistance, corrosion performance, and weld quality in austenitic and duplex stainless steels.

4. De-Magnetization

  • Removes residual magnetism from rotating equipment, shafts, and precision instruments.

  • Performed using AC coil, yoke, and waveform decay methods with calibrated gauss meters.

  • Prevents welding interference, machining issues, and operational failures.

5. Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT / LPT)

  • Detects surface-breaking flaws such as cracks, laps, and porosity in non-porous materials.

  • Uses both visible and fluorescent dye systems (ASTM E165, ASME Section V).

  • Suitable for welds, castings, forgings, and machined parts.

6. Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT / MPI)

  • Identifies surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.

  • Uses dry or wet fluorescent particles under visible/UV light.

  • Ideal for welds, shafts, fasteners, and structural parts.

  • Performed per ASTM E709, ASME Section V.

7. Ultrasonic Testing (UT / UFD)

  • High-frequency sound waves used to detect internal flaws, lamination, and thickness loss.

  • Performed via straight beam and angle beam testing.

  • Critical for weld inspection, corrosion mapping, and structural evaluation.

  • Standards: ASME, AWS, ISO.

8. Radiographic Testing (RT)

  • Uses X-rays and gamma rays to detect internal defects like porosity, inclusions, incomplete fusion.

  • Provides permanent digital or film-based records for traceability.

  • Applied for critical pressure components, pipelines, and welds.

  • Standards: ASME Section V, ASTM E94, ISO 17636.

Standards & Codes Followed

Our Conventional NDT services comply with global standards, including:

  • ASME SEC V, XI

  • ASTM E165, E709, E797, E94, A388, A435

  • ISO & EN standards

  • API codes for storage tanks, pipelines, and process equipment

Applications Across Industries

  • Oil & Gas / Refinery: Pipeline welds, storage tanks, pressure vessels.

  • Power Plants: Boilers, turbine blades, heat exchangers.

  • Petrochemical & Fertilizer Plants: Critical process equipment, piping systems.

  • Aerospace & Defence: Aircraft structures, engine components.

  • Infrastructure & Construction: Bridges, buildings, structural steels.
