Long Range Ultrasonic Testing is a guided wave inspection technique used to screen long lengths of piping from a single test location. It enables rapid identification of corrosion or metal loss in piping systems that are difficult to access, such as insulated, buried, or elevated lines.

Why LRUT Is Required

Inspection Methodology
LRUT inspection begins with selection of suitable test locations based on piping layout and accessibility. Guided ultrasonic waves are introduced into the pipe using transducer rings, allowing the waves to propagate along the pipe in both directions.
Reflections from corrosion, wall thinning, or geometric features are recorded and analysed to determine their location and relative severity. Based on the results, areas of concern are identified for targeted inspection using conventional or advanced NDT methods.
