TWO-DAYS INTENSIVE TRAINING ON WELDING PROCEDURE SPECIFICATION (WPS), WELDING PROCEDURE QUALIFICATION (PQR) AND WELDER PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATION (WPQ). - A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM


Course Objectives


  • Understand the basics of welding, including the different types of welding processes, welding equipment, and welding safety measures.

  • Understand the purpose and importance of WPS, PQR, and WPQ in the welding industry.

  • Learn how to develop a WPS and PQR, including the essential elements required by welding codes and standards.

  • Understand the process of qualifying a welding procedure and a welder's performance, including the different testing methods and acceptance criteria.


Course Content

Day-1 :

  • Introduction to Steels, Alloy Steels and Stainless steels

  • Basic Welding Methods (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and SAW)

  • Metallurgical aspect of welding

  • Fundamentals of WPS, PQR & WPQ and their importance in the welding process.

  • Learn how to prepare WPS in accordance with ASME BPVC SEC IX

  • Significance of the different variables that affect welding quality.

Day-2 :

  • Importance of PQR in qualifying

  • welding procedures and ensuring quality.

  • Learn how to prepare and conduct PQR testing and documentation.

  • How to interpret PQR test results

  • WPQ in qualifying welders and how it differs from PQR

  • How to prepare and conduct WPQ testing and documentation


Practical Sessions


  • Demonstrating test coupon by SMAW in 1G position

  • Demonstration of destructive methods of the weld as per ASME codes

  • Case studies on WPS/PQR/WPQ - practice sessions.
